Do you think that the only way to get a truly international CV is to travel?
We think that an international university has to be one that is plugged into different networks. That's why at CEU Valencia we work with institutions from across Europe, Asia and America to provide new kinds of learning modules on all our undergraduate programmes: bilateral projects in which we can bring the world into the classroom.
COIL stands for ‘Collaborative Online International Learning’: this is a ground-breaking approach to interactive learning which has been gaining ground in recent years at the most outward-looking universities across the world. COIL enables a wider range of students to gain an international learning experience, regardless of their physical location.
With this approach, our students can now study fractal geometry with students at Florida International University in real time, or undertake practical training sessions in law with students at the Universidad del Azuay. And all this is possible in one of our standard classrooms.
Students are able to participate in COIL modules through the collaboration of our faculties with other institutions in the construction of shared online projects. Together, we are able to put together learning itineraries which are suited to our degree programmes, consistent with CEU's general approach to learning and appropriate for our students' needs.
The form and duration of COIL projects can vary according to the degree they are associated with, but they share the same philosophy and values: to foster learning through experience , to enhance teamwork, to improve intercultural abilities and develop language skills. But it's more than this too: by coming into contact with people from other countries, our students can discover new ways of working and gain valuable insights into today's ever more globalized world.
The key to the success of this programme is the collaboration between institutions who share a vision of what education should be. If your institution shares our view, then let's talk. In general, if you'd like to set up a COIL project, you can do it in three straightforward steps.
