Specific training to aid your professional development

We are different because…

1. We train you to specialize in orthodontics

Those with a bachelor's degree in dentistry require further postgraduate training to be able to diagnose, plan and carry out basic orthodontic treatment. For this reason, CEU UCH can offer you a complete training package to enable you to become a full-time orthodontist. This comprises two study programmes: the Master's Degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics and the Lifelong Learning Master Programme in Orthodontics. This will enable you to gain the expertise and experience you need to provide orthodontic treatment safely and confidently.

2. The aim is to produce new specialists in orthodontics, trained to highest European standards (NEBEOP).

To do this, our students receive a solid and wide-ranging grounding in theory; they are encouraged to think critically, to reason, and to take evidence-based decisions; and they are given the opportunity to put everything they have learned into practice by dealing with real patients at the University's Dental Clinic.

3. The complete programme consists of more than 3000 in-person hours, of which more than 2000 are spent in the clinic treating patients, with each student being assigned more than 50 patients over the three-year period.

Objectives

  • To enable dentists and doctors specializing in oral medicine to become specialists in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics by means of a solid and wide-ranging theoretical and practical grounding in the different methods of assessing, analysing, diagnosing patients and planning and providing treatment.
  • To ensure students have robust knowledge of biomedicine, anatomy, physiology, histology and craneofacial biomechanics.
  • To encourage students to consider published scientific research with a critical eye within each thematic unit and thereby to enable them to acquire evidence-based knowledge with practical applications.
  • To enable students to apply, safely and confidently, all of the knowledge and skills acquired during simulations using typodonts.
  • To enable students to become familiar with and use the analogue and digital tools needed for clinical assessment and diagnosis in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics.
  • To enable students to design and create the appliances needed when working with typodonts and real patients.
  • To enable students to become familiar with the leading and cutting-edge approaches, techniques and appliances in the field, while also being completely at ease with older methods which were key in the development of modern techniques.
  • To provide students with firm and coherent criteria with which to make differential diagnoses and logical and sensible treatment plans, through an interdisciplinary approach.
  • To enable students to communicate and collaborate effectively with others in interdisciplinary teams.
Requirements

Before you begin the admission process, check that you meet the specific admission requirements for the Master's Degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. To be admitted, you must apply for a place on both study programmes (the Master's Degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics and the Lifelong Learning Master Programme in Orthodontics) as they form a complete training package; if your application is successful, you will be admitted to both components.

Transformational Competencies Training Plan

The University offers its students the Transformational Competencies Training Plan, to provide them with learning opportunities to further enhance employability and career prospects.

The Transformational Competencies Training Plan at CEU is made up of four practical modules, structured around key soft skills and competencies.

Soft skills are an essential part of the armoury of today's professionals. The ever-changing working environment means that the ability to adapt and relate to others effectively is more important than ever. And not only will you get the chance to develop these skills - you can gain a microcredential to prove it.

Each module consists of four hours of in-person training sessions and you can agree a flexible training schedule with the instructor to suit your learning needs. This schedule will consist of a blend of practical and dynamic activities, a run-through of some theory, self-assessment exercises, peer feedback and some space for reflection.

What is a master's degree?

Master's degrees (máster universitario) are postgraduate qualifications which are accredited by quality assurance agencies for higher education at both a national and regional level in Spain. For CEU UCH, this means that they are accredited by ANECA (Agencia Nacional de Evaluación de la Calidad y Acreditación), and AVAP (Agència Valenciana D’Avaluació i Prospectiva), respectively. This makes them different from certain other postgraduate programmes in Spain, which may be specific to a given university and are known as títulos propios, which do not require such external accreditation.

This quality assurance process means that Spanish master's degrees are recognized as valid in any country in the European Higher Education Area.

Students with a master's degree are eligible for doctoral programmes.

With regard to civil service selection processes in Spain, master's degrees carry more weight than títulos propios, which are classified as part of lifelong learning. Both types of qualification are perceived as valuable in the private sector.

End-of-Master's Degree Project

For the End-of-Master’s Degree Project, or TFM, students must undertake a project or research study which draws on and examines different explanations, theories, and ideas with regard to a specific issue. By doing so, students will learn how to plan a process, to apply research principles and skills (literature searches, data analysis and interpretation, etc.), to engage in problem-solving in an autonomous manner and to communicate and defend their point of view efficiently and professionally.
