Spanish Pathway to Nursing

A global employability plan

What makes us different?

Excelencia

Our Intensification Programmes

At CEU, we are very focused on ensuring that our students acquire the technical skills related to their discipline – but we also want to ensure they gain the personal and professional skills they need for real growth. We firmly believe that providing high-quality, rigorous and challenging education to our students is the key to their future career success. And today's employers are ever more demanding in looking for potential employees who have well-rounded skillsets. This is how we are rising to this challenge:

  • Competency Development: Having the right range of skills and competencies can really make the difference in the job market. That's why at CEU we place a focus on competency development working on our students' personal and professional skills. This will ensure that not only will they be experts in their fields, but they will also be able to act as leaders in their social and working environments. Our goal is to enhance our graduates' employability and to provide them with the tools they need to take on the challenges today's world faces.
  • Academic Excellence Programme: For our high-performing students, we have created a training plan to intensify their development, to enhance what they can offer to employers and to provide them with greater career opportunities. This programme will enable them to develop key competencies while working with highly prestigious companies.

1. A bilingual education

If you are interested in being taught in both English and Spanish in order to enrich your future professional profile, we offer the possibility of taking the first year in English and then continue teaching in Spanish for the rest of the degree. Our itinerary also adapts to every need:

  • For non-native Spanish students: during the first year all subjects are taught in English, except for 18 ECTS (which will be taken the following year) where instead we offer the student a module to support their Spanish language learning, which will help them adapt to teaching in Spanish later on in their degree.
  • For native Spanish students: during the first year all subjects are taken in English, except 18 ECTS that are taught in Spanish.

2. Professionals in the classroom

Because we understand that in order to become a good nurse, you have to be in contact with the best professionals right from day one. That is why many of our professors are outstanding practicing nurses working in hospitals and health centres.

3. The four doors to employability

  • Placements at the heart of the curriculum: this way we can ensure you know how to "do nursing" from the first year. Your initial "know-how" puts you in the best position to make the most of external placements. This way, you add value in the healthcare centres in which you will undertake placements during second year.
  • Enrichment Program in preparation for the EIR: if you see your professional future in the Spanish healthcare system, during the fourth year you will be able to participate in our programme to begin your preparation to becoming an Enfermero Interno Residente (EIR). This way, whilst you finish your degree, you will begin preparations in order to gain a place in the Spanish public health system. Of course, participating in this programme to improve your qualification is voluntary and does not imply any additional cost.
  • Certificate in Communicative and Assistance Competencies for Nursing (CCAE): experts say that the ability to communicate and manage personal relationships is the key to being an outstanding professional nurse. Therefore, through our training course you will become competent in this area and it will also be certificated through the CCAE.
  • The international dimension of nursing: we are constantly increasing the number of international placements available in the United Kingdom, Germany and other countries in Central Europe.
  • Free online training in specialised English for nursing (if you need it) from third year in order to adjust your level to professional requirements.
  • Opportunities to undertake international nursing placements.

4. A pioneering double degree, from the specialist in double degrees

You can study a pioneering double degree on European soil in order to boost your training and increase your number of options for the future. We offer you a tailor-made degree so that you have a different university profile:

Final Year Project

The TFG involves students completing their own original research projects that include and expand upon on topics studied on the course and require students to use the skills and abilities they have acquired throughout their degree. The aim of the dissertation is to teach students how to look for, structure, organise and evaluate relevant information in order to help them develop their own opinions, including how to approach topics with a social, scientific, technological or ethical nature, and how to develop their own thoughts, criticisms and logical and creative judgments.

SICUE

The SICUE Program is an exchange scheme between Spanish universities and not a grant. It is overseen by Spain’s Ministry of Education and run by the Spain university rectors’ association, the Conferencia de Rectores de las Universidades Españolas (CRUE)

This exchange scheme enables students to undertake part of their studies at another Spanish university, with guarantees that the time spent studying there and the results achieved will be recognized by the home university. No funding is available for the SICUE programme.

This programme makes it possible for students to experience different teaching systems, including those concerning practical training, as well as the different social and cultural contexts of other regions and cities in Spain.

Application

February 2022: publication of the 2022/2023 call.

Requirements

Students can request an exchange with universities with which CEU UCH has a bilateral agreement, if they fulfil the following requirement:

Undergraduates: to have been awarded at least 45 credits and to be enrolled on at least 30 more.

The credit requirement must have been met on 30th September of this academic year, with the academic year prior to the SICUE mobility programme taking place being taken into account for compliance with requirements.

  • Master’s and doctoral programmes are not eligible for the SICUE programme.
  • The stay at the host university may be for half an academic year (3, 4, 5 or 6 months depending on the organization of the host university’s academic year) or a complete academic year.
  • A complete academic year entails enrolling on at least 45 credits and half an academic year entails a minimum of 24 credits.
  • Failed courses: on the condition that this does not contravene the home university’s internal regulations, and subject to the approval of the academic coordinator, the student may include in the learning agreement one, and only one, course that he or she has previously failed.
  • Once the student has arrived and made contact with the host university, the student must send back the arrival certificate.

For financial purposes, the student continues to be a CEU Cardenal Herrera student, meaning that he or she must enrol at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University when the enrolment period opens, and must continue to pay the tuition fees to the University. The student is exempt from paying fees at the host institution. No funding is available for the SICUE programme.

The student must enrol at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University when the enrolment period opens, even though they are to undertake a stay at another university.

Students must put their choices in order of preference, choosing a maximum of five options.

The documents must be sent to [email protected]
