Medicine (Grado en Medicina)

Bilingual training for a global world

What makes us different?

Excelencia

Our Intensification Programmes

At CEU, we are very focused on ensuring that our students acquire the technical skills related to their discipline – but we also want to ensure they gain the personal and professional skills they need for real growth. We firmly believe that providing high-quality, rigorous and challenging education to our students is the key to their future career success. And today's employers are ever more demanding in looking for potential employees who have well-rounded skillsets. This is how we are rising to this challenge:

  • Competency Development: Having the right range of skills and competencies can really make the difference in the job market. That's why at CEU we place a focus on competency development working on our students' personal and professional skills. This will ensure that not only will they be experts in their fields, but they will also be able to act as leaders in their social and working environments. Our goal is to enhance our graduates' employability and to provide them with the tools they need to take on the challenges today's world faces.
  • Academic Excellence Programme: For our high-performing students, we have created a training plan to intensify their development, to enhance what they can offer to employers and to provide them with greater career opportunities. This programme will enable them to develop key competencies while working with highly prestigious companies.

1. A global education

We offer you a bilingual English and Spanish education, enabling you to work in English or Spanish in Spain and across the world.

2. State-of-the-art facilities

The modern facilities at our Alfara del Patriarca Campus (Valencia) are the ideal setting for you to develop your skills: dissection and anatomy rooms, laboratories, study rooms, and more.

The Faculty of Health Sciences is committed to providing our students with a hands-on learning experience through the simulation of clinical settings.

Our Advanced Simulation Centre has the latest technology to enable our students to practise the performance of specific procedures without any risk to patients while developing their clinical and communicative skills.

3. Learn from the professionals

We know that the best way to train doctors is give them the opportunity to interact with top professionals from the very third year. That is why doctors from hospitals and healthcare centres spend a few hours of the week teaching our students. They bring the reality of the profession right to our students.

It is no coincidence that the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University is one of the few in Spain which draws directly on the expertise of the Fundación para la Formación de la Organización Médica Colegial (FFOMC). By means of this Foundation, the Organización Médica Colegial (OMC, Spain's general medical council) seeks to enhance and support medical training. This is particularly significant given that the OMC is the superintendent body of all Spain's doctors' associations (the Colegios de Médicos). So, our Bachelor's Degree in Medicine is able to benefit from the educational know-how of the main representative organization of the medical profession in Spain and is even able to claim the direct participation of some of its major figures through our Seminars on Professionalism in Medicine (Seminarios de Profesionalismo Médico).

4. Objective: MIR

If you want to work in the Spanish healthcare system, you will be interested to know that we can prepare you for Spain's MIR exam (passing this exam enables you to obtain a place as a Médico Interno Residente, i.e. a resident, providing an opportunity to specialise in a branch of medicine). You will receive training to prepare you for the MIR exam from the very third year of your degree. Therefore, when the time comes, you will have a much better chance of being able to choose what you specialise in and the place you prefer.

Results that speak for themselves >

5. A bonus for your employability

In your sixth year, we offer you the opportunity to undertake, free of charge, the Expert Certificate in Integrated Medicine. This course aims to provide you with a comprehensive perspective of the different medical specialisations. It has been designed with an eminently practical approach in mind: through the study of clinical cases, an explanation of each process is made from different points of view, focusing on diagnosis and therapy.

Go international. Our Bachelor's Degree in Medicine, in both its Spanish and English-Spanish streams, has been awarded the ANECA's International Quality Label, meaning that it is recognized by the WFME, World Federation for Medical Education. This international accreditation opens up a wealth of career opportunities for our students in the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, enabling them to sit the medical speciality exams in these countries.

Students on either stream of the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine can also take part in our USA Clinical Placements Programme, the first of its kind in Spain, enabling you to do clinical rotations at prestigious hospitals and healthcare centres in New York and Chicago.

6. Students at the heart of everything

The practical training our Medicine students receive has been enhanced by the recent creation of two Advanced Simulation Centres for Medicine on our campuses. These facilities boast the latest hospital simulation technology, enabling our students to work on all kinds of clinical situations. They seek to recreate real settings within hospitals, from patient rooms to operating theatres, and students can work with robots simulating patients in different situations. The hours spent working and learning at the Advanced Simulation Centres enable our aspiring medical doctors to improve their clinical and team-working skills.

The Spanish association of deans of medicine faculties (the Conferencia Nacional de Decanos de las Facultades de Medicina Españolas) has approved the ECOE (the Structured Objective Clinical Assessment) test that Medicine students must undertake at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University. This means that the assessment our students undertake at the Faculty, regarding their real clinical skills, meets the most stringent standards of the Spanish higher education system. It is further evidence of the high-quality training provided as part of the Medicine degree at the University and the great emphasis we place on ensuring that our students have the right practical and clinical skills. See the corresponding certificate here.

7. An international vocation

Every day at CEU UCH you will be surrounded by students from more than 100 countries. In the globalized world we live in, that is a big advantage for all our students. Build relationships and synergies with people from across the world and broaden your horizons. And not just on campus: our 5th-year students can apply for clinical placements at prestigious hospitals in the USA, made possible by means of a groundbreaking scholarship programme for Spain.

Final Year Project

The TFG involves students completing their own original research projects that include and expand upon on topics studied on the course and require students to use the skills and abilities they have acquired throughout their degree. The aim of the dissertation is to teach students how to look for, structure, organise and evaluate relevant information in order to help them develop their own opinions, including how to approach topics with a social, scientific, technological or ethical nature, and how to develop their own thoughts, criticisms and logical and creative judgments.

SICUE

The SICUE Program is an exchange scheme between Spanish universities and not a grant. It is overseen by Spain’s Ministry of Education and run by the Spain university rectors’ association, the Conferencia de Rectores de las Universidades Españolas (CRUE)

This exchange scheme enables students to undertake part of their studies at another Spanish university, with guarantees that the time spent studying there and the results achieved will be recognized by the home university. No funding is available for the SICUE programme.

This programme makes it possible for students to experience different teaching systems, including those concerning practical training, as well as the different social and cultural contexts of other regions and cities in Spain.

Application

February 2022: publication of the 2022/2023 call.

Requirements

Students can request an exchange with universities with which CEU UCH has a bilateral agreement, if they fulfil the following requirement:

Undergraduates: to have been awarded at least 45 credits and to be enrolled on at least 30 more.

The credit requirement must have been met on 30th September of this academic year, with the academic year prior to the SICUE mobility programme taking place being taken into account for compliance with requirements.

  • Master’s and doctoral programmes are not eligible for the SICUE programme.
  • The stay at the host university may be for half an academic year (3, 4, 5 or 6 months depending on the organization of the host university’s academic year) or a complete academic year.
  • A complete academic year entails enrolling on at least 45 credits and half an academic year entails a minimum of 24 credits.
  • Failed courses: on the condition that this does not contravene the home university’s internal regulations, and subject to the approval of the academic coordinator, the student may include in the learning agreement one, and only one, course that he or she has previously failed.
  • Once the student has arrived and made contact with the host university, the student must send back the arrival certificate.

For financial purposes, the student continues to be a CEU Cardenal Herrera student, meaning that he or she must enrol at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University when the enrolment period opens, and must continue to pay the tuition fees to the University. The student is exempt from paying fees at the host institution. No funding is available for the SICUE programme.

The student must enrol at the CEU Cardenal Herrera University when the enrolment period opens, even though they are to undertake a stay at another university.

Students must put their choices in order of preference, choosing a maximum of five options.

The documents must be sent to [email protected]
